Our annual art auction and fundraising event creates an excellent opportunity for community participation and excitement for present projects as well as creating additional avenues for the artists to give back to the community with pride. This one night event hosts established professional artists from the Texas and additional participating states. With local and national recognition we pride ourselves on the growing response and success we have had in helping to raise funds for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Centers.
This year's art line up will showcase some of the finest traditional, modern, and contemporary art from around Texas. Houston artists have come together to donate their work for the event, which will be auctioned off during the evening to support two very important organizations:
MD Anderson Cancer Center - Since 1944, almost 700,000 patients have turned to M. D. Anderson for cancer care in the form of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy or combinations of these and other treatments.
At M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, important scientific knowledge gained in the laboratory is rapidly translated into clinical care. In 2005, the institution spent more than $342 million in research, an increase of approximately 86% in the last five years. M. D. Anderson now ranks first in the number of grants awarded and total amount of grants given by the National Cancer Institute.
The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund - Proceeds from this year's event will also support the JCCF. The JCCF's premise is to lend a helping hand to professional rodeo athletes and their families in the event of catastrophic injuries resulting from professional rodeo activities.
The 2008 Black & White Boots Ball is being organized by the United Sterling Artist Foundation. The foundation membership is composed of sculptors, painters, and artist from around the region. The foundation's mission, Artists making history and changing the face of the community.
