“ Located in Historic Old Town Palestine, two blocks from the Court House. The Gallery is opened: Wednesday thru Saturday 10 am to 5 pm ”
Dave was born in Palestine, Texas, graduated from Palestine High School in 1959 and was active in football, basketball, and baseball. He attended Sam Houston State University on a baseball scholarship and graduated in 1966 with a degree in Fine Art and Commercial Art. After college, he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a fireman, trainmaster, clerk, and engineer. Dave retired in 1992 after 30 years of service.
Dave continued to pursue his love of art and had several one-man shows. He has competed at the local level winning several area shows and won the Regional Art Show in Jacksonville. He won Best of Show painting at the Austin Museum of Art - Laguna Gloria Gallery and was named one of the top 20 artists in Texas.
When Dave retired from the Railroad, he and his wife bought an RV and went West to live and learn what the desert and mountains had to offer. He spent ten years absorbing and dwelling where history was made in the Old West. He joined several Cowboy Action Shooting Clubs during this time, The Tombstone Buscaderoes, The Texas Regulators, The Oakwood Outlaws and The Brazos Valley Desperados. He was fortunate enough to walk the streets of Tombstone several times a week and visit Old Tucson Studios. He has also visited Gammons Gulch Old West Town and relished the spirit that these places have to offer.
During this time, Dave visited numerous art galleries in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jackson Hole and Cody, Wyoming, Tubac, Sedona, Jerome, Tucson and the Phoenix area of Arizona for inspiration. He was also able to study the arts in Northwest Washington and British Columbia.
Love for the West, instilled in Dave by his father, W.L. Broughton, is quite evident in his work and has inspired his art in serveral medias. His mother, Olabelle Clark Broughton, nurtured his artistic ability during his childhood.
Dave's wife, Beverly, and their sons, Hunter and Cliff, have stood by Dave and encouraged him to pursue his passion for the Southwestern and Native American Genre.
