What to bring for Plein Air painting:
An easel (French Easel is best) or some device to hold your work. This could be as simple as a fold up table or some type of stiff surface like a piece of plywood that you rest on your lap or on the ground.
A surface to work on, paper, board or canvas. Gesso the surface if you work with oils, and well as with possibly other types of materials, but I am not well versed in other types of media. Tone the surface, it is better than a pure white surface
Some type of solvent, I like Gamblin's Gamsol
Brushes
Paints - at least the basics (red, blue, yellow) along with black or white. Again Gamblin is a good brand, as are others.
Rags or paper towels
Optional:
Chair
Stand oil to think your oil paint
Palette knife, use to scrape out an area (with oil paints mostly) that is not working
An umbrella or hat, along with sunscreen
Drop cloth if you are real messy.
Anything else?
